Manchester City have officially signed Italy goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma from Paris Saint-Germain for a reported £26 million. The 26-year-old shot-stopper arrives on a five-year deal with an option for a sixth, as Pep Guardiola looks to reshape his squad following the departure of Ederson.
Donnarumma, who previously lifted the Euro 2020 trophy with Italy, is widely regarded as one of the best shot-stoppers in the world. He will wear the No. 99 jersey at the Etihad and is expected to become the club’s new first-choice goalkeeper.
The move comes after Ederson left Manchester City to join Fenerbahçe for around £12 million. Donnarumma’s arrival signals a shift in City’s goalkeeping philosophy—moving from Ederson’s playmaking distribution to Donnarumma’s world-class reflexes and penalty-saving reputation.
Speaking on his arrival, Donnarumma said:
“This is a club every player would love to join. It’s a special and proud moment for me, and I cannot wait to play at the Etihad Stadium.”
Manchester City’s Director of Football praised the signing, calling Donnarumma “a world-class goalkeeper with the pedigree and quality to thrive at the very highest level.”
For City, this is more than just a transfer—it’s a statement of intent. With Donnarumma guarding the net, the club aims to strengthen their pursuit of both domestic and European glory.
